The Leeds United Development Squad began their pre-season friendlies with a goalless draw at Grimsby Borough. The home team proved too be a very physical side and the match was marred by an injury to Leeds right-back, Lewie Coyle. He received the ankle injury in a bad tackle and had to be taken to the hospital for treatment and could be out of action for quite a while. The United players applied themselves well and created some chances but a goalless draw was the final outcome. On the bright side the game saw a return to action, after a serious knee injury, by Tyler Denton and a first Leeds game for striker Robbie McDaid. The Leeds coach Neil Redfearn said: “They were a very physical side and we lost Lewie Coyle through injury. Our lads applied themselves well and created one or two good opportunities going forward.” He played two teams. For the first hour it was: Dan Atkinson, Lewie Coyle, Afolabi Coker, George Swann, Tyler Denton, Luke Booker, Alex Purver, Kalvin Philips, Tom Lyman, Eoghan Stokes, Luke Parkin. And for the final half-an-hour it was: Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Jack Turnbull, Liam Bennett, Isaac Assenso, Tom Pearce, Adam Berry, Jack Vann, Piteu Crouz, Munya Mbanje, Robbie McDaid, Frank Mulhern. Referee: Mark Swift (Grimsby).
